follow these simple steps to add your driver’s license information to Apple Wallet in less than five minutes!

Whether you just purchased your very first iPhone or have owned one for years, chances are you use it daily. There’s likely an app or two on your phone that has become so important to your daily life that it might as well be integrated into the device itself, such as Venmo, Uber, and Lyft. If you’re looking to add another app to that list, make sure to follow these simple steps to add your driver’s license information to Apple Wallet in less than five minutes!

Open the Wallet App

The first step is to open the Wallet app. You can do this by tapping the Wallet icon on your iPhone’s home screen. Once the app is open, you should see a card with your name and picture on it. If you don’t see this, tap the plus sign in the top-right corner of the screen.

Select Add Another Card

Select the plus sign icon. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. Doing so opens a new menu.

Tap Continue. It's at the bottom of the screen. This will take you to the Add a card page.

Select Driver’s License. It's an option near the top of the page. You may have to scroll down to find it.

Fill out your information. Enter your name, address, and license number into the appropriate fields. You may also be asked to enter your date of birth, height, and eye color.

Tap Done when you're finished filling out the form. It's in the screen’s upper-right corner next to the plus sign icon. Doing so saves your information and exits you out of this menu.

Use Your Camera or Scan Your Card

You can use your iPhone’s camera to add your driver’s license to your Apple Wallet. First, open the Wallet app and tap the plus sign in the upper-right corner. Then, select Add Card and choose Driver’s License. If you have a physical card, you can also scan it by tapping Scan Code. You may be asked to enter some additional information, such as your address or height. Once you’ve added all the required information, tap Next. You will then be asked to review the terms and conditions.

Confirm it's you

You will need to prove that this is you who is completing this process so you will most likely be asked to complete a series of head or facial movements. The next prompt will be to take a selfie standing in front of a plain background (use a neutral painted wall), that is well lit. Avoid using sunglasses, hats, or other accessories that may interfere with your facial verification. All you have to do is hold your phone as steady as possible until you feel it vibrate.

Save your information

After you add your driver’s license to your Apple Wallet, be sure to save the changes. To do this, go to the Settings app and tap Wallet & Apple Pay. From there, tap on Default Card and choose the card you just added. You can also change the order of your cards by tapping and holding on a card, then dragging it to a different position.

In case you are not able to add your Driver's license

Contact your state issuing authority. It may be that this option is not yet available in your state. Here is a list you can click on and find out which states are currently allowing the use of virtual driver's licenses.

Other 30 states are moving towards this innovative implementation.

Enjoy going on a trip without worrying about carrying around physical copies of your driver’s license, and very soon, traveling internationally without a physical passport will be available too (although you can already add your passport to the wallet. More on that on another post).
